Different Types Of Umbrellas

An umbrella may seem like a somewhat insignificant accessory. Until you are caught in a cold, slushy downpour, that is. Then you realize just what a valuable thing an umbrella is, after all. There are several different styles of umbrellas that you can choose from in order to best suit your lifestyle.

Compact Umbrellas:

Compact umbrellas, for example, are an excellent choice for you if you always need to have an umbrella on hand. They collapse into a very small, discreet size and traditionally come with a nylon carrying case as well. Compact umbrellas are small enough to fit inside a briefcase or backpack, or perhaps even in a large coat pocket. Some "ultra compact" designs are only about 6 inches when folded up. This style is also ideal for travel because it may very easily be packed in a suitcase. An umbrella is often something that travelers forget to pack, although it is something that absolutely comes in handy during winter travel to warm climates. The Northern Lowlands of Costa Rica, for example, experience their rainy season from December through April. So while many escape here for Christmas and spring break vacations, they should not overlook the need for an umbrella.

UPF Umbrellas:
If you are more concerned about sun than rain, then an umbrella with a UV protection factor is what you need. While all umbrellas can shade you from the sun, not all of them can actually block out the harmful rays that cause skin damage. Any UPF is helpful; if you want the best look for one with a UPF of 50. Don't forget that even when it is cold outside, the sun can reflect right off of the snow and onto your face. For added convenience, look for an automatic umbrella, which can be opened simply by pushing a button on the handle.

Doorman and Stick Umbrellas:

While compact and folding umbrellas have much to offer in terms of convenience, they don't offer much as far as fashion and style are concerned. And umbrellas are an accessory that most certainly can be stylish. My recommendation for the most fashionable types of umbrellas are classic doorman and stick umbrellas. Doorman umbrellas have a larger canopy than traditional umbrellas, which makes them perfect for accommodating a second person. They also offer subtle details that are sophisticated in appearance, such as stitched ribbing in the canopy. Similarly, stick umbrellas may be found in a variety of colors and evoke a professional and sophisticated feel when paired with a trench coat. Stick and doorman umbrellas make excellent presents for menof all ages. For a timeless style, look for a black or gray stick umbrella with a carved wood handle. This style has been popular for generations.

Wind Resistant Umbrellas:

Now, if you've ever had an umbrella turn inside-out on you during a good gust of wind, you know exactly how irritating this can be. What you need is a wind resistant umbrella, which will stand up to blustery weather. This type has a special vent within the fabric that allows wind to pass through, rather than pushing the fabric inside-out. Don't worry, it will still offer complete coverage against wind and rain.

Men's Fashion 101: Finding the Right Ties

Finding the right ties to complement your outfit isn't rocket science. In fact, it's not even long division. Finding the right ties, for the most part, is a simple task. By taking a few minutes to examine the colors, patterns, and materials that make up your outfit, you'll have no problem finding a matching tie. However, we know better than to leave you with that vague snippet of advice. So, here are a few tips to ensure you're picking out the right ties.

Size matters

Ties don't just come in different colors. They come in different shapes and sizes as well. So, the first way you'll want to narrow down your search is by selecting the right sized tie. If you're wearing a skinny blazer that hugs your body you would opt for thinner ties to complement the suit. On the other hand, a shirt with a thick collar worn with a more standard sized suit calls for wider, larger ties. Either way, as long as you choose a high quality tie with thick material, you'll be able to sport a great looking tie knot.

Set a color scheme

Your outfit should have a matching color scheme. The easiest way to do this is to lie out your clothes before you put them on. Lay the shirt next to the suit jacket and pants. Then, try to match different colored ties to the shirt. If you're ever unsure, navy blue and red ties are going to match nearly any combination of neutral clothes (grays, whites and light blues). This process will make finding the right shirt and tie styles combo a much easier task.

Patterns

Patterns can be a bit trickier, but they can enhance an outfit tenfold. Naturally, you don't want to drape yourself in loud, distracting ties. However, a subtle pattern can be the perfect amount of spice your outfit is looking for. Try to avoid matching bright color shirts with bright color ties. Also, be careful with wearing striped shirts with striped ties.

The Men's Guide to Swimsuits

Warmer weather in the summer months is a good excuse to go over to the pool or beach and unwind. There's just one problem: you don't have a swimsuit. Unless you're named Michael Phelps or you're going to do practice laps in a pool, Speedos are a bad idea. The best and least fashion-egregious idea is to go with today's line of men's swimsuits, a cross between board shorts and swim trunks that will keep you swimmingly in style.

Too Long
Yes, there's such a thing - for swimsuits, at least. You're going to a public place where most people are half naked, and you're going there nearly nude yourself. Don't do a half-ass job and wear long shorts that reach below your kneecaps. You might as well stick to pantaloons if you're planning on such attire.

Keep your swimsuit short. For most guys, the hem should hit somewhere about midway between your waist and your hips. The length isn't absolute, though, as you still have your height to contend with. In any case, the shorts are too long once they're shin-length.

Garters Must Go
Swimsuits with a garter at the waist are a bad idea, especially for guys with something of a gut. The garter tends to grab at and emphasize the very thing you don't want others to gawk at. Flat shorts typically use a drawstring to tighten the waistband, and are a better idea whether you wear a 28 or a 38.

If you simply must wear a garter, then at least keep it as thin as possible. The worst ones are the garters that are too thick; they grab at such a huge chunk of flesh and will leave really ugly marks besides. Keep it to a quarter to three-fourths of an inch, and you should do fine on the sands.

Find a Fly
Just because you're nearly naked out there doesn't mean you have to let go of modesty altogether. The family jewels have to be kept as secret as they were before; you don't want to start an impromptu burlesque show now, do you?

A fly is a better choice than simple trunks or shorts because the stitching creates a little cup that keeps your privates protected. Even when you're getting out of the water and the shorts are clinging to you every which way, the shorts construction required by a fly will make sure that your little swim outing is G-rated.

Be One with Your Bod
Like with business suits, a lot about the swimsuit depends on your body and how you're built. You'll want to get a suit that complements what you like about your body, instead of baring those for all to see.

Short guys will want to go for short- to medium-length shorts to help balance the length of the legs. Conversely, taller guys should get longer pieces so that they don't look like giraffes looking for water. If you've got a spare flotation device on your midsection, get a regular fit one in black; it works just like t-shirts that draw attention away from your gut.

It's inevitable that you'll need a swimsuit at least once in your life, so now is as good a time as any to get one that will make you look good by the water. Returns are rarely accepted for those things, so make sure you get the rig

Skinny Ties Come in Interesting Shapes and Sizes

Modern day skinny ties look just like their standard width counterparts except they are slimmer at the tip. Whereas most standard neckties are 3 ¼ to 4 inches wide, the skinny ones are at most 3 inches wide. The measurement is taken at the widest point by the tip, from corner to corner. Some variations of these narrow accessories come in more interesting shapes and sizes.  One inch neckties offer a radical look. Square end skinny neckwear has been around for over 100 years and continues to be part of more formal dress and skinny shaped neckties have fun novelty themes meant to look weird, wacky and downright funny.

Most skinny ties taper outward until they reach the tip, as do normal width neckties. At the very extreme, 1 inch skinny neckties don't taper at all. They are one inch wide from tip to tip. Super skinny neckwear first appeared at the beginning of the 20th century. They measured as thin as 1 ½ inches and were appropriately referred to as "string ties". The thinnest of them reappeared in the early sixties, when they reached the minimum width of one inch. The label on one such accessory read "Splinter". Most people are used to seeing and more comfortable wearing neckwear which actually tapers a bit and this begins to be more noticeable at 1 ½ inch inches.

Square end ties are exactly what the name implies: square at both ends. No tips. They are also known as "square bottom" and "flat bottom" neckties. Such neckwear was also introduced at the turn of the 20th century and ranged in width from 2 to 2 ½ inches. They were again manufactured in the 1950's and 1960's at similar widths. By the mid 60's and into the 70's they grew over 3 inches. Many were four inches wide. Their width shrunk back to the around 2 inches as they continue to be made today. Most all square end neckwear does not taper. They are the same width from the knot to the very end.

The most fascinating narrow ties have a novelty theme. Back in 1986 the Ralph Marlin Company had its start as a manufacturer of neckwear. Their first collection was all fish shaped. The neckties were rounded at the ends to mimic the shape of fish heads. They really grabbed the attention and were the topic of conversations at social gatherings.

Today you can find a wonderful selection of skinny shaped neckties. Basically they follow the outlines of the things they represent: Beer bottle and wine bottle shaped neckwear is popular. Stethoscope shaped ties are perfect for doctors. They can help ease anxious patients at stressful times as well as bring about a smile to people's faces. The dolphin and parrot shaped ones end at a point. ;Many guitar shaped neckties are rounded and are great conversation starters. There is something out there for everyone.

Narrow neckwear comes in a lot of fun shapes and sizes. Best of all, there is a nice selection available for a variety of occasions. Some thin neckties are ideal for in and out of the office. Some are best worn at formal gatherings and others are most appropriate for fun social events. If you love skinny neckwear, both new and vintage, and are looking to expand your collection, the possibilities are endless. You can find many unique ones when searching online for "square end", "vintage novelty", and "vintage skinny ties".

Ways to Tie a Scarf Around Your Neck

There are many ways to wear a scarf to be more fashionable. Here are some ways to achieve a modern-day chic and that eye-catching look.

The Josephine
The look of the Josephine is a knotted piece of bread used as snacks for drinks. This is a rather large knot so it would be best if the cloth is of a light material and the width of the cloth is narrow. Silk, rayon and satin are the best ones for this. Drape the scarf around your neck with the ends loosely hung. Take the left tail of the scarf and roll the cloth upwards to the body creating a knot with the other loose end at the back. Hold the scarf where the cloth forms a cross over and take the scarf in front of the loop from the right side behind the loose end. Bring that end over the loop and knot the loop and then pull. Leave the knot loose or tight, or even adjust the length of the scarf.

The Larks Head
This is one of the classic knots in use. Drape the tie around the neck with about one end a third longer than the other. Create a long fold near the center of the left end. Fold in half the knot from the loose end that would create two smaller loops. Take the right loose tail and feed it through the loopholes. By doing this, you would go behind all of the pieces and the knots can either be tightly woven or loosely held. To adjust the height of the knot, you simply need to slide the knot up and down.

The Bowline
This type makes a statement as one loose end is left on the shoulder. Drape the scarf evenly over your shoulders. Take the left end of the scarf and pull it upwards to your body to create the knot. Let the right tail run through the loophole from the front and then over into the left loose end. Return the right loose end to the loop but always stay behind the left end. Adjust the tightness and then toss the right end over the shoulder. Leaving the knot loose would definitely call attention to your neckline area, and would also look stunning by being playful with knot placement and drapery.

Other knots, usually practical ones, have often been used to tie scarves or ties. Apply these different styles and be adventurous with your everyday fashion.
